This Time of Year - especially now with Sandy!

As we all settle into fall awaiting winter there is a calmness that is our upcoming holiday. No work for parents, no school for children, most of us try to find some time to spend with our friends and family. I'd like to mention to all of you, those that do not have life as fortunate as the rest. Whatever your little tug is rather it be families, children, the elderly or orphaned pets - lets all do some little thing within our power to make life just a bit nicer for another rather than just dwell on our own circumstances. There are so many things that can be done to help or just to put a smile on someone's face!

Talk to someone that looks down, smile at everyone we see for a day, go a little farther and help out at an animal shelter, a shelter caused by Sandy or a soup kitchen, write a heart felt note to someone sick or elderly, maybe someone affected by this terrible storm. Offer to run to the store or pharmacy for a shut in, while your out to lunch pay for someone's coffee, clean up a small area of your town, tell someone about their job well done, adopt a homeless animal, tell someone they look great, help someone in the next town over clean up after Sandy - maybe even someone in your own town. Take a homemade meal to someone if you can do so safely, donate to your local food pantry, invite friends or family that were displaced due to the storm, to spend some time with you, call someone that would like to hear from you, take someone out to lunch. Take some used books to someone that will get more use out of them. Better yet let each member of the family pick one thing they can do to make life better. We are blessed to live in the greatest country on earth and it was started by helping one another. Working side by side for the common good!

Seriously, we don't have to wait for the holidays to be kind. People need us every day of the year! Quite often we don't even notice because we are so busy with our own lives. It seems when we feel we cannot do one more thing or fit in one more thought is when these opportunities arrive but I believe we are returned such a great feeling of accomplishment that it is well worth any effort on our part!
